Cultural Piece

Cultural Piece-
Description: I started off with the vision of making an italian cup, but that shifted to an italian vase. I began by shaping a piece of slab into a cup shaoe. I then made a botton for the piece and slip n scored that on. I pressed the bottom in to give the indented appearance.
Then at the top I pused the sides in to give it a cultural look. I then used chrome green, brilliant red and clear gloss to put the italian colors at the bottom. I  then used the gloss glazes in the special bottles to design the Italian symbol in the center. Then I gloss glazed clear over the rest of it.

Analysis: I used emphasis on the italian symbol as well as color. I also used balance and proportion because it was even and similar on both sides.

Interpretation: I really wanted to capture italy in this piece. I placed the italian symbol in the center and used the italian flags colors at the bottom.

Judgement: Overall I really like this piece and feel like it really represents Italy. I just wish I gloss glazed over the symbol in the center.

Class Choice

Class Choice-
Description: First I cut out two oyster-like shapes. I then curved them to make it so they would come together in the right shape. I slip n scored the two pieces together. Then I rolled out a ball and slip n scored that into the center. I took a shell and scraped texture to the outside of the oyster to give it a real appearance. I then glazed the piece with charcoal black, pink and clear gloss glaze.

Analysis: I used texture on the outside of the piece to give it a realistic appearance. I used proportion making it even on both sides. I made emphasis on the pearl giving it a lack of color amidst the bright pink. I also used contrast between the black and pink I used.

Interpretation: I wanted this piece to be the class choice of an animal figurine. I haven't made a decorative piece yet and really took this opportunity to do so. I wanted it to be elegant and I feel that was achieved.

Judgement: I think the piece came out really good. I just wish I made it bigger and maybe applied some extra coats of glaze to give a less streaky appearance.
